THE Samaritans in Durham hope to recruit more volunteers to help with their work.
The charity's Mid-Durham branch based in the city needs more people to man its telephones lines. It is also developing a scheme to help young people - the charity nationally is concerned at the rise in the number of suicidal and desperate youngsters - and runs prison listening schemes.
An introductory evening will be held on Monday at 7pm, at Samaritan House, Sutton Street, Durham, when people can find out more about the Samaritans and what being a volunteer entails.
Branch chairman Roger said: "We could do with between eight to ten people joining us as volunteers."
