TWO quick-thinking police officers are being honoured for their attempts to save an 81-year-old man.
Constables Martin Blenkinsopp and Rachel Stockdale, of Sedgefield division, are to receive commendations from the St John Ambulance.
The were on patrol in Spennymoor last February when they received a call that a pensioner had collapsed in a newsagents in Clyde Terrace.
The officers found the man lying on the floor unconscious, with no signs of a pulse, and they immediately tried to revive him.
Superintendent Derek Hall said yesterday: "Although everyone involved tried extremely hard, sadly they were unable to save this gentleman.
"But that should in no way detract from their efforts. PC Stockdale and PC Blenkinsopp did everything they could and fully deserve this recognition."
