SHOPPERS were evacuated from a shopping centre yesterday morning.
The Cornmill Centre, in Darlington, was evacuated at about 9.20am, but it turned out that a glass fire alarm had been broken accidentally.
A spokesman for the centre said: "All the shops cooperated very well and the response was very good."
Minutes earlier, 16 staff at Darlington Library in nearby Crown Street were also evacuated when a fire alarm in the roof space was activated.
The employees were let back into the building 10 minutes after the false alarm and were able to open on time.
