HEAD teachers in Nunthorpe have pledged to make the most of cash windfalls from the winding-up of the library campaign group.
The village's one secondary and four primary schools have each been given £985 - proceeds of fundraising to save the library from closure.
The share-out comes from the Friends of Nunthorpe Library which had a £5,000 surplus. The proviso is that the money is spent on books.
The head teacher of Nunthorpe Community school, Mr John Rowling, thanked the Friends for their efforts in trying to save the library. "There has been a lot of heartache. But we promise our children will enjoy the books this money will provide."
Nunthorpe primary head teacher, Mr Doug Welsh said: "As a school, we used the library a lot and we have now lost that facility. Schools can't spend too much on books. They are essential and never more so than now."
The Friends raised nearly £40,000 during the fight.
