THE winner of the moorland keeper award from the Jospeh Nickerson Heather Improvement Foundation is Mr Lindsay Waddell of Raby Estates in County Durham.
Since being appointed as upper Teesdale estate keeper in March 1976, Mr Waddell has progressed in the field of keepering and moorland management to become one of the country's most respected authorities. A member of the Nature Conservancy Council and now the Council of English Nature, he was a prime mover in the founding of the Moorland Gamekeepers' Association.
He has been instrumental in promoting the role of gamekeepers in moorland management in a manner which has enhanced the reputation of his fellow keepers.
The award will be presented at the Game Fair at Blenheim Palace next Friday at the gamekeepers' section of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation's stand.
