Barry Stephenson won the inaugural Harrisons Sports Challenge Trophy at the Croft Autodrome as he won the Pit-Stop race which was run at the racing circuit.
Stephenson, 18, completed the 10 kilometre course in 32 minutes 31 seconds, just ahead of Michael Lamb and Nigel Orr to receive the winning trophy. Seventy runners took part in the event which organisers, Harrisons, are looking to make an annual event.
First lady home was Darlington Harrier Kimberley Read, who led a trio of Harriers across the line as Bernadette Taylor finished second with Sharon Carbert in third place.
In addition to the main event, there was also a two kilometre fun run held with 16-year-old Darlington Harrier Richard Smith claiming first place in.
It was the first time Harrisons and Darlington Harriers have held an event on the track at the Autodrome which is more commonly known as a motor racing venue.
Stephenson praised the racing circuit but admitted it was an unusual place to compete.
"It was certainly an unusual venue, but definitely a quick course and all the runners I spoke to found it very popular."
Continuing: "I am delighted to have won. It was great to run at Croft
and I am looking forward to coming back here again to defend the title next year.
Neil Harrison, a partner with Harrisons, said: "Congratulations to Barry and everyone who took part.
"The response we have had from all the runners is that Croft Autodrome is a great venue for an athletics meeting and we are looking to hold a bigger and better event next year."
