The Millennium Transplant Games come to the North-East next week with the events covering a wide spectrum of activities from fishing to athletics.
Tynemouth Sailing Club will host the Sailing Events on Friday, July 28 with five competitors from across the country taking part.
Organisers are intending the event will demonstrate that life can be good after a transplant and that these 'patients' now lead an active, healthy lifestyle.
They also hope to promote the benefits of carrying a Donor Card and show both carriers of cards, and the bereaved relatives of carriers, how much their personal sacrifice is appreciated by the recipients of the transplanted organs.
l The Trident/RYA North East Young Sailor of the Year Competition is now looking for nominations from all clubs in the North-East region.
The winner of the competition will receive the Trident UK Trophy and will go on to represent the North East in the National Young Sailor of the Year Competition at the London Hilton in January.
Past winners of the North East Young Sailor of the Year include Graham Vials from Darlington who is a member of Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club and is now a serious Olympic contender. Stephen Wilson of Hartlepool, a member of Sunderland Yacht Club, is also a former winner and stands as the youngest winner yet.
The closing date for this annual competition is early September.
