BARRY Stephenson, of the Darlington-based Quakers Run-ning Club, won the inaugural Harrisons Sports Challenge Trophy at Croft Autodrome by winning the Pit Stop race.
Barry, 18, completed the 10k course in 32 minutes 31 seconds, just beating Michael Lamb and Nigel Orr, of the organising club, Darlington Harriers, to receive the winning trophy.
Seventy runners took part in the event, with sponsors Stockton-based Harrisons, one of the region's leading firms of insolvency practitioners and corporate recovery specialists, looking to make it an annual event. Barry Stephenson said: "I am delighted to have won. It was great to run at Croft and I am looking forward to coming back here again to defend the title next year.
"It was certainly an unusual venue, but definitely a quick course and all the runners I spoke to found it very popular."
Neil Harrison, partner with Harrisons, said: "The response we have had from all the runners is that Croft Autodrome is a great venue for an athletics meeting and we are looking to hold a bigger and better event next year."
