A MAN arrested by police following a siege at a house was still being questioned last night.
Cleveland Police dashed to a house in Roworth Road, Middlesbrough, in response to calls from a terrified woman that she and her six-year-old daughter were being confronted in their home by a man armed with a machete and knives.
A specialist negotiator was called in and persuaded the man to give himself up.
A police spokesman said: "A male was in the address armed with knives and refusing to come out. After lengthy communication the male left the house."
During a stand off that last almost four hours, taunts were shouted at the police from the house and furniture was damaged.
The spokesman said a 29-year-old man was detained and taken to Middlesbrough Police Station where he was being quizzed last night about offences of public disorder.
