Hetton Lyons Sunday League

Chris Fawcett (51no) and Paul Marsh (44no) enabled South Hetton to overtake Annfield Plain's 146 for nine with five wickets adrift. Newstead top scored with 73 when Annfield Plain made first use of the wicket and for South Hetton, Mark Gray captured four for 49 and Fawcett three for 33.

Martin Hubber (41no) led Sacriston to 143 for seven and Stockton in reply, were all out for 140 including 39 by Mason. Andrew Dixon claimed five of the Stockton wickets for just 47 runs.

A Donkin (58), Smith (35) and J Donkin, (41no) were all among the runs in Gateshead Fell's 185 for five at home to Tynemouth who were dismissed for 98 when Dhidsa claimed five for 11 and Stoddart three for 25.

Consett managed just 100 for eight of which Andrew Waters senior scored 35 when they hosted Sedgefield for whom Evans claimed six for 59. Batting first, Sedgefield finished with 169 for eight of which White scored 70 and Jemmerson 51 while for Consett Dixon returned four for 50.

Jamieson and Scholes both made half centuries in Newcastle's 220 for six and replying Marsden were dismissed for 146 and Race captured seven wickets for 54 runs.

Despite scoring 210 for five when Chris Nunn hit 106 and Campbell 55 not out, Whickham lost by five wickets to Blaydon whose match winners were Manning (64) Forster (57) ands Jobling (42).

Peter Craig took five for 49 and Ronnie Gray four for 47 when Swalwell visited Chester-le-Street and won by two wickets. Woodcock (58) and White (34) led the Cestrians to 155 before Swalwell won with two wickets remaining thanks to the efforts of David Wardman with 41 not out and Ronnie Gray (36). McGowan and Hancock both claimed three wickets for Chester-le-Street.

Colin Shanks struck 126 not out and Lee Simpson made 76 not out in the Hetton Lyons total of 294 for seven at home to Bill Quay who were once 86 for 36 in reply with Michael Orridge making 78 not out and Shiel 38.

Darlington Building Society NYSD League

Bishop Auckland had 67 runs to spare in defeating Richmondshire in Division Two when Keith Hobbs top

scored with 39 in a total of 163 for eight. Keith Thorns took three for 37, Ratford three for 15 and Budd four for 28 when Richmond were restricted to 96.

Lee Sykes contributed 66 and Waite 48 to Normanby Hall's match-winning 168 for seven at home to Great Ayton who were despatched for 98 with Brown taking five for 17 and Arrow four for 27.

Colin Watts carried his bat for 60 when Blackhall overtook Saltburn's 136 for nine of which Woodcock scored 46 not out.

In Division Three, Middlesbrough were held to a draw when they hosted Guisborough at Acklam Park. Batting first, Boro ended on 206 which included 48 by Severs and 42 not out from Hopper while for Guisborough, Coates returned four for 86 and Shah three for 81. Guisborough were 129 for four at stumps of which Preston made 51 not out.

Robinson, with six for 25 and Peek (3-39) bowled out Northallerton for 87 after visitors Hartlepool posted 145 which included 32 from Coverdale, Neil Kendrew captured five for 11 and Bickerton four for 56 in the Northallerton attack.

Stainsby, five for 30, and Hobson (4-45), sent Saltburn back with only 110 runs on the board before Yarm won by five wickets when Wyatt scored 43.

John Stockham hit 109 in Stokesley 203 for nine at Barnard Castle who responded with 138 for seven including 54 by Ian Dent, who earlier captured three for 55.

Michael Burton (47), Michael Black (60) and Brian Rider (43) were all among the runs in Seaton's Carew's 218 with six of the wickets going to Carroll for 63 runs.

When Marske went into bat they were all out for 135 as Brian Rider returned four for 26.

Wolviston and Nunthorpe were involved in a high scoring drawn match in Division Four. Bedi with 62 and Jones (36no) led Wolviston to 191 for seven and responding Nunthorpe ended on 168 for eight including 35 by Tunney. Bayley claimed three for 44 for Wolviston.

Despite 52 by Blackburn and 31 from Brisco, Blackhall were dismissed for 162 on their visit to Richmondshire for whom Brentley took six for 56. Stead top scored with 82 in Richmonshire's 191 for nine.

Muldowney claimed five for 15 to restrict Seaton Carew to 125 and Thornaby went on to win by six wickets when Hartley scored 50.

The top contribution in Bedale's total of 229 for eight in 50 overs against Darlington were extras with 41 and the best batting performance came from Stevens, who made 38. Darlington were 135 for four with only six overs remaining when bad light stopped play. Colin Biglin was unlucky in that he was 96 not out when a halt was made.

Morley (54) and Topliss (48) enabled Preston to make 206 for seven at Darlington RA who gained a draw by making 127 for seven of which Paul Dickinson contributed 33.

Grayson and Strike both took three wickets for Preston.

George Mann Cup

Ithe second semi-final, where the teams met for the right to face Crook Golden Fleece in the final, Weardale Steel batted first against the holders, Shildon Timothy Hackworth. The first ball brought a wicket as Ian Muse was dismissed by Tony Clegg.

Chris Sawyer (19) and David Newton (15) set about lifting Steel until Newton fell to a brilliant catch at short mid-off by Ian Longstaff. However, Carl Jackson with 20 not out and Aidan Tait (13) pushed the scoring along at a steady rate.

Steve Winter added a quick late ten runs to take the Weardale Steel total to 102 for six when the overs ran out.

Timothy Hackworth's reply saw Ian Longstaff dismissed lbw in the third over but Dave Clegg (20) and Terry Laffey (19) began a positive fight back with Dave Austin later adding a valuable 16. The best catch of this season's competition, and probably one of the best in the cup, was made by Ian Muse when he raced along the boundary to scoop the ball only inches from the ground to dismiss Tony Clegg.

As the Shildon scoring rate slipped wickets tumbled as they tried to lift it. Eventually, the overs ran out with the last two at the wicket but only 90 runs on the board.

Just Sport Trophy

Durham City secured a remarkable last-ball victory against Sacriston, Richard Reid lifting the ball over the boundary for a match-winning six and Durham were home by four wickets.

Reid who also recorded three fours finished unbeaten on 38 and Tim Stonoch added 48 with five boundaries while for Sacriston Jonathan Prested's four overs cost just 14 runs as he claimed three wickets.

When Sacriston batted first they made a useful 109 for four and Martin Hubber maintained his form with four boundaries in 37 not out.

Andrew Dixon scored 23, with two fours and Gary Kirk had three boundaries in 20 but the game belonged to Reid.

South Shields also progressed in the U-15 competition, defeating Murton by 21 runs following a low scoring game. Shields totalled 75 for seven but it proved sufficient as Murton were dismissed for 54 as Nicholl captured five for four and Sarkar three for two.

Haughton

The club's Horace Marshall Challenge Cup is being staged on Sunday, the event sponsored by ASDA of Darlington.

The first semi-final between Haughton Young Boys and Barton is at noon with the second semi-final at 2.30 pm between Haughton and Cockerton. The final is scheduled for 5.30 pm with the presentation at 8.30 pm to be made by the club's 96-year-old president Horace Marshall.
