VILLAGERS will soon be put in the picture about wrongdoers.
Six close circuit television cameras are to be installed around Skelton.
What they see will be transmitted back to a central Redcar and Cleveland Council CCTV control room.
Residents are being invited to nominate locations for the £53,000 batch at public meetings.
Coun Dave McLuckie, lead councillor for public safety said: "We'd urge the public to try and get to one of these meetings so we can hear their views about the camera sites, then make a final decision on where they'll be.
"One of the biggest problems today is the fear of crime. CCTV has proved time and again that it is a real deterrent - and we're sure this system will make a difference in Skelton."
The politician is chairman of the Skelton Single Regeneration Budget, which is receiving Government cash for the cameras.
Steve Brown, an SRB board member said: "We're pleased to be working on a scheme which will offer peace of mind to residents and businesses in Skelton.''
The provisional sites for the cameras are the High Street, Skelton Civic Centre, De Brus School and the corner of Jervaulz Avenue and Whitby Close.
