The lure of Lord's has proved too much for Guisborough. Their cup success this season left them with an agonising choice because of two key games on the same day.
They have decided to field their first-choice side against Sheffield Collegiate in the quarter final of the National Club Championship and send another team to Thornaby for the final of the Kerridge Cup with Middlesbrough.
The final of the NCC is played at Lord's on Friday September 1 and Guisborough are two matches away from a dream trip to the home of cricket.
"We rate the Kerridge Cup extremely highly but it is not very often that players at our level are in with a chance of playing at Lord's," said Guisborough captain Richard Dunn.
"We have discussed it and the players would like to be given the opportunity of trying to reach the final of the NCC and it is unfortunate that we also have to play the Kerridge Cup final on the same day.
"We feel that Guisborough are putting the NYSD League and the region on the map and if we managed to go through to the final it will be a big fillip for the whole area," said Dunn whose side has been in fine form during the recent weeks.
Guisborough are now third in the Darlington Building Society NYSD League, only seven points adrift of Saltburn and newly-appointed professional David Towse has been an immediate success.
"I thought we did really well without a professional but David has added a new dimension to our game and with home advantage we feel that we have a chance against Sheffield Collegiate, although they are a very good side and currently lead the Yorkshire Premier League."
The good news for Guisborough is that Towse can play in the quarter final.
So far, Guisborough have seen off Pickering, Ashington, Whitburn, Benwell Hill and the West of Scotland and will choose from a squad of 13 for Sunday's match which is of 45 overs per side duration and starts at 1.30 pm.
NYSD League president Ken Gardner said he was sympathetic to Guisborough but pointed out that with a lot of fixtures coming up before the end of the season, it would have been difficult to rearrange the Kerridge Cup final.
"The date has been set for a long time, Middlesbrough expect to play the match on Sunday and the host club Thornaby will have made arrangements.
The league wishes Guisborough all the best against Sheffield Collegiate - I know their players are really wound up for the game and it would be marvellous for the league if they were to go on and play at Lord's," declared Gardner.
