A YOUNGSTER has won a gardening painting competition thanks to his love of primulas.
Ben Darcy, 11, a pupil at Oak Tree Primary School, Stockton, entered the competition run by Garden News.
For his prize, Ben won his school a computer, printer and a digital camera.
The painting, of his favourite plant, won him a selection of books worth £100.
Sheila Hanrahan, classroom assistant at the school said: "Ben's painting was entered into the competition along with that of a group of pupils, who had all worked very hard for the competition.
"All the work was of a very high standard and I am delighted Ben's picture was chosen."
Steve Ott, the gardening editor of Garden News said the standard of entries nation-wide was very high.
A pleased Ben said: "Primulas are my favourite because of the colours, and it is also my mum's favourite flower.
