AN historian will be giving an insight into Victorian-style crime and punishment tomorrow.
David Butler is giving a talk at Durham City Library, called Guests of Queen Victoria, which will shed light on the crimes committed by inmates of Durham Jail.
Mr Butler said: "I'll be talking about some of the prisoners in Durham Gaol in 1851 and the system of justice that put them there.
"I'll be looking at them as a group and then one or two individuals and the crimes they committed."
Among the crimes Mr Butler will look at are an attempted murder at Barnard Castle, which was solved when the police matched the culprit's footprints.
Tickets for the talk cost 50p and are available from the library in South Street on 0191-386 4003.
