YOUNGSTERS from a North-East school are playing host to pupils from Germany and Spain as part of European Partnership Week.
Forty-two pupils aged from 14 to 18 arrived in Stockton at the weekend to take part in the event organised by Ian Ramsey School, Stockton's specialist language college, at Fairfield.
The visitors will be joined by 43 youngsters from Stockton schools during this week.
They are staying at Bishopsmill Residential School, in Norton, and will join in activities at Ian Ramsey every morning before enjoying cultural visits each afternoon and social activities each evening.
Karen Pemberton, deputy headteacher at Ian Ramsey, said: "European Partnership Week is a fantastic opportunity for pupils from all backgrounds in Stockton to meet students from abroad. The event is a great way to establish links between schools and families.
"As far as we know this is the first international summer school of its kind in the area."
The Mayor of Stockton, Councillor Pete Andrew, launched the week of programmes yesterday at the Ian Ramsey's South Site Hall.
