THIS year's Thornaby Show will relive the old days by including a parade for the first time in many years.
What used to be called the Mayor's Parade has dropped its old title, but has been resurrected to support the show on the Harold Wilson Ground, Thornaby Road.
The parade will be staged to mark the millennium and is now planned as an annual event. Attractions will include a float featuring the Anokhee Ladies Group, in traditional ethnic dress, the Territorial Army band, residents' groups and credit union.
Floats and marchers begin at Thornaby Town Hall, on Sunday, September 3, at 9.30am, finishing at the show ground. Stockton South MP Dari Taylor has been asked to lead the procession.
Events centre round a stage featuring new entertainment talent, karaoke and local bands Voodoo and Class Act.
The show ends at 4.30pm and has a Punch and Judy show, residents' stalls, gymnastic display, bouncy play castle, Thornaby Townswomen's Guild art and craft exhibition, Thornaby Gardeners' Association produce exhibition and other stalls.
Stallholders are asked to wear fancy dress of their choice.
On Saturday, the day before the show, Thornaby Fishing Competition will be staged at Horseshoe Bend, on the River Tees. Junior and senior sections will be open to anyone, with prizes awarded at the show.
Anyone interested in taking part in the show, fishing competition, or the parade, are asked to contact Thornaby Town Council (01642) 678652.
