A GROUP of young people has attracted a grant of more than £9,000 to help convert part of a nightclub into an information centre for homeless people.
The Prince's Trust has agreed the cash for a project to create a tenants' room in the new community campus building, in Brunswick Street, Stockton, which used to be the called Heaven nightclub.
The project, called the Millennium Room, is aimed at helping young people become self-sufficient in the community if they have had to leave home for any reason beyond their control.
Community campus hopes to have the room ready by December.
The room will include Internet access so homeless people can research jobs, housing issues and welfare rights.
Sue Bousfield from the group said: "This Prince's Trust grant will be of major benefit to young people, not just the tenants of community campus, but also those in the wider community.
"Once the project is running we will concentrate more on independent living skills, which will help young people to hopefully move on into their own independent accommodation."
It is hoped the room will help more homeless young people find accommodation and thus reduce homelessness and begging.
