PEOPLE are being invited to attend public meetings across Richmondshire which will help to create the district's arts strategy.

Consultant Gillian Howells has sent out 400 letters already but said: "This is just the tip of the iceberg. I have been trying to contact individuals, groups and societies, venues and organisations to let them know how they can participate in the preparation of this strategy."

The aim is to highlight strengths and weakness of arts activities and focus on a five-year plan to help improve the quality of life for residents and visitors.

Seven meetings are due to be held, starting from tonight at Colburn Village Hall. The others are: Richmond Town Hall, Wednesday; Middleham Key Centre, Thursday; Barton Village Hall, Monday; Muker Village Hall, next Tuesday; Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes, Wednesday, August 9; Reeth Village Hall, Thursday, August 10.

Arts professional are invited to attend between 6pm and 7pm with the full public meetings starting at 7.30pm.
