LONG-SERVING teacher Ted Marchal returned to work in the town where he went to school.
Now he has stepped down after 33 years teaching geography at Thirsk School in a career which has also seen him become head of year.
Mr Marchal had been educated at Thirsk before attending La Salle College in Manchester, where he qualified as a teacher in 1964.
After working in Southampton he joined Thirsk School in 1967, where he has also been responsible for exam administration and health and safety.
Head teacher Chris Lewis said: "Ted has made a huge contribution to Thirsk School over many years. His loyalty and professional integrity are second to none. It has been a privilege to have worked with him."
