MORE than 100 schoolchildren made a splash at Hambleton Leisure Centre when they took part in an end-of-term swimming contest.
The students, from 14 schools across the district, spent two hours battling it out at the Northallerton inter-primary sch-ools' swimming gala.
It was the boys and girls from Applegarth county primary school who went home with the trophy.
Four boys and four girls from each school took part in freestyle and back crawl relay events, which Northallerton College students helped to organise.
Centre manager Richard Dowson said: "It was wonderful to see so many schools represented.
"School swimming lessons are an important part of our weekly programme at the leisure centre.
"The children enjoy their lessons and we are giving them a vital skill.
