AN unusual award system at a community college has proved a hit with students.
Sedgefield Community College awards points for good behaviour, attendance and school work throughout the year. Every time a student gains a point, they earn entry into the end of term draw.
First out of the hat this year was 11-year-old Natalie Austick, who won a £200 mountain bike, donated by Sedgefield Crimewatch. Tessa Walker, 13, won a £100 cheque for second prize and there were £5 vouchers for Paul Howie, Michael Bellwood, Linzi Parsons and Amanda Clarkson.
Sheila Moore, from leprosy charity Lepra, made the draw and received a cheque for £284, raised by pupils from a sponsored event.
Deputy head John Tomlison said: "The excitement was intense as the draw was made and a great incentive for the future.
