EMPLOYEES at a North-East industrial plant are half as likely to be injured at work as they were two years ago.
The Corus Coil Plate Mill, on Teesside, has shown an improvement in all health and safety categories.
Mill manager Garry Newbould said its safety scheme was working because of the cooperation of everyone in the mill.
All staff were given pocket cards outlining their plant objectives. The cards put the responsibility on individuals to be committed to a zero injuries policy.
He said: "We encourage people to do a dynamic risk assessment before they start work on a particular job.
"There is no complicated paperwork. We just ask everyone to look around them when they start a new task, to make certain of what's going on in their surroundings.
"It's the kind of thing everyone does while driving their cars. We all look around and behave in a way suitable to those changing conditions.
