Darlington'S Advanced Motorists group could be facing the end of the road unless it gets more volunteers.
The group, which offers advanced motoring tuition to drivers, says it desperately needs more people to help with its activities.
It also needs more drivers to sign up to the courses after a free six week course it ran only attracted three people.
Chairman Dave Griffiths said: "We are fighting to keep the group alive as there are only about four people doing the work required at the moment.
"We are trying to make people aware of road safety, but we need new young blood."
The group is on the look-out for volunteers to run a caravan it uses, which visits supermarkets in Darlington on a monthly basis, offering motorists advice about driving.
It also wants help with a newsletter it publishes from someone, possibly with public relations experience, who could help raise the profile of the group.
Mr Griffiths said: "We want to get the message out to people to take part in safety training courses.
"All the training is free of charge, people only have to supply the car and pay a fee for their test.
"We have done a great deal of good in this town and trained a lot of drivers, particularly for people like Dial-a-Ride," he said.
