A ROAD that has been closed due to devastating floods will cost up to £250,000 to repair.
A 60-metre stretch of the B6282 between the South Church roundabout and the Alligator pub shut in June after the road slid down a 10ft embankment towards the River Gaunless.
The river burst its banks when the county suffered torrential rain.
A recent survey said the road normally carried 6,350 vehicles a day and was heavily used by motorists going from Newton Aycliffe to Bishop Auckland, Cro-ok and Spennymoor.
A spokesman for Durham Co-unty Council said officers were working on a design for the road repairs and trying to identify sources for funding. "We're hoping to get on site by the end of August and work will have to be completed by October as that's when the fish start spawning," he said
