FARMERS are being given the chance to sell direct to the public on a regular basis after the success of a series of markets.
More than 3,000 people visited the farmers' markets which were in Ripon held over the last two months.
Now a programme of markets has been organised by Harrogate Borough Council to take place over the rest of the year, starting with one in Harrogate on Thursday, August 10.
Council projects officer Kay Whitfield said: "These markets provide an opportunity for local farmers, growers and producers to sell their produce in person, direct to the public.
"In this way consumers are able to access fresh, wholesome, affordable food, whilst providing a real community atmosphere.
"The environment also benefits as the distance required to transport produce from producers to consumers is greatly reduced."
Markets will also be held in Ripon Market Square on August 13, September 23, October 22, November 26 and December 17, and in Knaresborough Market Place on September 10 and December 3
