SUMMER showers could not dampen the enthusiasm of hundreds of youngsters determined to have a good time yesterday.
East Durham and Houghall Community College held a play day for four to 16-year-olds at its Houghall site near Durham.
Attractions included fancy dress and banner parades, bouncy castles, a bungee run, an agility trail, five-a-side football competition, a falconry display and a gyroscope.
About 600 youngsters attended the event, held to mark National Play Day, which aims to promote the value of play to children's development.
A college spokeswoman said: "It went very well. It rained on and off, but everyone had a really good time."
College principal Ian Prescott added: "The college continues to support community projects and is totally committed to its community role.
"Play days like this help to raise awareness of lifelong learning for all."
