KIND-HEARTED double glazing bosses came to the aid of a talking newspaper after its charity shop window was smashed.
The glass at Derwent Sight and Sound's shop in Front Street, Langley Park, was shattered by a beer bottle.
The charity would have had to fork out around £200 to replace the window. But Pennine Windows heard about the group's plight and offered to fit new glass free of charge.
Ian Dowson, coordinator of the charity, was delighted with the firm's generosity. "I'm over the moon and really grateful for all that the firm did," he said. "We had quotes of £170 and £180 to get a new window fitted, which is a lot of money for a charity like us.
"Pennine Windows must have heard what happened on the grapevine because they contacted us and came out to measure up and fitted a new window.
"Nothing was taken from the shop - it was probably just a drunk who threw the bottle at the window - but it wrecked everything behind the window.
