A town crier has been persuaded to rip up her resignation letter and carry on bellowing out the message for a popular tourist spot.
Three months ago Nancy Buckle, the first woman town crier of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, decided to leave. Her U-turn comes after countless people pleaded for her to stay.
"I think what persuaded me in the end was when children came up to me and said they didn't want me to go," said Miss Buckle, 57.
Andrew Bull, president of Knaresborough Chamber of Trade, which employs the town crier, said: "This is tremendous news."
Miss Buckle had planned to join her family in Canada, after North Yorkshire's House in the Rock, where she once lived, was bought by an antique dealer.
Miss Buckle had plans to restore the rock house of her ancestors as a tourist attraction. Instead, she is to write a book about it.
