THE War of the Roses has hit Redcar as councillors have become embroiled in a row over Yorkshire Day.
The annual event celebrates all things Yorkshire.
As part of the event, East Cleveland councillor Chris Abbott wanted to fly the Yorkshire flag over Redcar and Cleveland's Town Hall.
Before the introduction of Cleveland in 1974, the area was part of Yorkshire and since the abolition of the county in 1995 it has gone back to being Yorkshire.
Coun Abbott said: "We say that we can quite legitimately call ourselves part of Yorkshire."
But Redcar and Cleveland council leader Dave Walsh refused the request and insisted that the area was still Cleveland.
It's a confusing debate which goes back to 1974 and has led many people to question their own identity.
Coun Walsh said if Coun Abbott and his supporters ever took control of the council he was welcome to fly the flag of his choosing
