FOLK music and dance enthusiasts hit the streets of Durham at the weekend to spread the news about traditional arts.
Musicians provided free entertainment for shoppers when they performed in the city's Market Place on Saturday.
There was more free music in the grounds of the DLI Museum, Aykley Heads, when a folk picnic featured Radio Two Young Folk Award winners 422 as guests.
The region's folk music development body, Folkworks, was holding its annual Durham Gathering in the city from Thursday to Saturday, an event that attracted more than 200 musicians and dancers.
As well as concerts, it featured summer school workshops in various instruments led by top folk performers, including North-umbrian piper Kathryn Tickell.
She was among concert performers, who also included Haugaard and Hoirup, a guitar and fiddle duo from Denmark, Irish fiddler Liz Doherty, melodeon player Saul Rose, and Sandra and Nancy Kerr and Friends.
The weekend ended with two concerts held at Elvet Methodist Church, on Saturday evening. One was by The Big Squeeze, a band of squeeze box players. They were followed by performances from ensembles made up of summer school tutors
