A CYCLIST from Northallerton pedalled across California to raise money for charity.
Kevin Norton, from Pinfold Drive, was one of 15 cyclists who took part in the ride, from San Francisco to Los Angeles, in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. He completed the 500-mile trip in 11 days and arrived home to collect £2,000 from sponsors.
Mr Norton, aged 26, found the barren terrain made quite a contrast to his last sponsored ride, to Robin Hood's Bay - and the climate was rather warmer.
"The weather was lovely because we cycled in the morning when it was cool," he said, "and the hills were quite long and steady."
Mr Norton works in the social services department of North Yorkshire County Council and has been a member of Hambleton Road Club for four years. He trains three to four times a week, as well as attending the club's weekly races at Croft, near Darlington.
He embarked on the adventure after seeing the appeal advertised in a newspaper.
"I chose to do the ride because I enjoy cycling so much and it was for such a good cause," he said. "I know a few people who have been affected by cancer."
