THE first organic milk doorstep delivery service in the Darlington area is proving a roaring success.
Dairy farmer Gordon Tweddle spent two-and-a-half years converting his farm at Archdeacon Newton, near Darlington, to full organic production.
At the time, he described it as the biggest gamble he has ever taken, but it now appears to be paying off.
Leaflets were sent out to 48,000 homes in the Darlington and surrounding areas and they met with a huge response.
Mr Tweddle says he has been overwhelmed with the demand for his organic milk.
"We started off with no customer at all and are now doing a very good trade," he said.
"We have found that most of our customers have stopped buying milk from the supermarket and are keen on local organic produce."
Mr Tweddle runs the business with his wife Linda, daughter Caroline and son Graham.
He has already taken on another worker and is planning to employ two more people to keep up with demand.
