A NORTH-EAST councillor has blamed the Government's stance over the euro for putting jobs in the region at risk.
The Liberal Democrat's regional European spokesman and Wear Valley District Councillor Chris Foote Wood has urged the Government to make up its mind over its policy on joining the single currency.
He cited the decision by Japanese car company Toyota to ask for bills in euros as an example of many foreign businesses' uncertainty about staying in the UK long-term.
Coun Foote Wood said: "Britain's hesitancy over joining the single currency is threatening large-scale job losses, and nowhere more than in the North-East.
"We must have clarity of Government policy and press ahead with a referendum on entry to the single currency.
