Summer League

Spennymoor tightened up the Championship race when they sent league leaders, Old Shildon to their second defeat of the season. At the same time Fishburn A were whitewashing their visitors from Stanley Central to close the gap on Old Shildon to only one point with three matches remaining.

Spennymoor took the lead at Old Shildon with a point from Paul Biddle. The home side settled down with wins from Steven Bennett and Michael Pratt. However Eddie Rhodes levelled the match and in a high scoring decider, the Moors, Dennis Dodd beat Charlie Blake on the deciding black.

Fishburn went to their big home win over Stanley Central with wins from Brian Quest, John Griffin, Charlie Hirst, John Carter and Peter Davison.

Second Division leaders, Willington went down at home to second placed Wingate in the decider when they could only manage to take the first and last frames. Jeremy Martin put the home side ahead but then Wingate had points from Jim Alcock, Kevin Thirlaway and Geoff Howe. Paul Atkinson took the final frame for Willington, who are still five points ahead of Wingate.

Crook Belle Vue failed in the decider at home to Ferryhill and so remain two points behind Wingate with a match in hand. Billy Roddam put the visitors ahead but then Belle Vue moved in front with wins from Derek Potts and Harry Coates. Gary Toas levelled the match and in the decider Ferryhill's, Dale Hebdon beat Norman Slack.

Wheatley Hill B share the third spot with Crook Belle Vue after they won at Langley Park by the odd point. Kevin Keers put the Park ahead but John Frost, Dave Blyth with a 34 break and Tony Ellison won for the Hill. Paul Nord took the final point for the home side.

Meadowfield extended their lead at the top of the Third Division to six points when they whitewashed the visiting Billy Row with wins from Brian Newman, Norman Smith, Craig Hughes, Malcolm Hughes and Stephen Hughes.

Newhouse B are in second place in the Third Division, where they have a match in hand of Meadowfield, after their home win over Tow Law. Alan McCluskey put in a 37 break to take the first point for Newhouse with Malcolm Umpelby levelling. Brian Eltringham cleared the colours to restore the home lead but Stephen Laing equalised. In the decider David Jackson beat Tommy Williams.

In the First Division, Wheatley Hill A stayed in third position, five points adrift of Fishburn A with a game extra played after they beat the visiting Newton Aycliffe by the odd point. Marc Howe, with a 36 break, put the visitors ahead with Dean Bryden squaring the match. Bill Barrigan restored Aycliffe's lead only to see Ronnie Peacock level. In the decider Jack Wright clinched the Hill's victory with a win over John Briddick.

Shotton Palms restored their hopes of a high finish in their first season in the top bracket when they only dropped the first frame to the visiting Sherburn Village, who had Alan Greener as their winner. Dave Swindle, Barry Hall, John Armstrong and Jimmy Evans took the Palms to victory.

Durham City never led in their home match with Newhouse A until they took the decider where Gary Ward defeated John Maddox. Ian Dinsdale and Keith Mann won for Newhouse with Barry Stoddart and Michael Pratt replying for Durham.

Hunwick were able to move into third place in the Third Division after they whitewashed the visiting Leeholme with wins from Trevor Lomax, Tom Ward, Barry Fleming, Arnold Fleming and Neville Blenkinsop. The Hunwick side trail Newhouse B by three points.

Crowtrees virtually ended Spennymoor B's chances of getting among the trophies in the Third Division when they came back from trailing by two points to win the decider. Micky Anderson and Alan Shaw put the Moors in front but Keith McLaughlan and Sonny Hann levelled the match. Sean Johnston took Crowtrees to victory by beating Kurt McCormack in the decider.

Durham Association

Hopetown were held to a draw at home by second placed West Auckland but they still hold a four points lead at the top of the First Division. Albert Hill's three points from the visiting Bishop Auckland Cricketers moved them up to share second place with West Auckland.

Darlington Cricket Club extended their lead to five points in the Second Division after they only dropped one home point to Elm Road. Harrogate Hill, in second place, remain a point ahead of Old Shildon. Barnard Castle Folly's A are 16 points clear in the Third Division with Bishop Auckland Kingsway two ahead of Carpies in the second spot.
