UP to 60 school leavers in Darlington are being offered the chance to spend a week taking part in outdoor pursuits - and improving their career prospects at the same time.
However, not many have yet put their names forward to take advantage of the opportunity.
The scheme, arranged by Darlington Borough Council's community education service and Darlington Outdoor Pursuits Club, is open to 16-year-olds.
They will be able to learn about team building while taking part in activities such as caving and climbing.
Sue Davidson, from the community education service, said yesterday: "It is a wonderful opportunity for young people who have just left school to take part in a residential outdoor activity week.
"The course will help youngsters in their efforts to look for work, further education or training, but in a challenging and enjoyable way, and you don't have to be super fit to take part."
Anyone wanting more information about the outdoor pursuits scheme should call the community education service at the Town Hall on (01325) 388830.
