THE South Bank Multicultural Carnival Queen for the millennium has been crowned.
Barbara Smith, 15, was chosen for the honour at a carnival disco, which was organised by the members of South Bank Community Forum.
Yesterday, Barbara received her crown from the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Councillor Arthur Dobson, at the Mayor's parlour.
Barbara was nominated by the South Bank Youth and Community Centre because of her helpful and considerate nature.
Youth leader Beth Lindley said: "Barbara is always willing to help, a great girl and an excellent asset to the youth club."
Barbara's first engagement will be at the South Bank Multicultural Carnival Street Parade next Saturday, August 19.
Two other youngsters - Kerrie Reekie, 11, and Gareth Reed, nine - will travel in the "royal" pony and trap with Barbara, having been picked as her attendants.
