A MISSING section of the famous Bayeaux Tapestry has been recreated by Thirsk company, Madeira Threads, and is to go on show at St Mary's Church.
The firm commissioned Jan Messent to recreate the lost 8ft section of the 230ft tapestry, made in the 11th Century.
It involved research into the content of the lost section and the use of the same type of linen fabric used for the original. Lambswool threads were dyed with plants.
The piece shows the mounted Norman Army meeting the nobles of London, and the coronation of William the Conqueror as King of England.
It will go on show at the Kirkgate Church from Wednesday, August 23, until Wednesday, August 30, from 10am to 6pm daily and from 1pm to 6pm on Sundays.
Admission is free, but donations can be made towards the church's £70,000 chancel roof appeal.
