FORMER computer technician John Honneyman is gearing up for the cycle ride of his life to help multiple sclerosis sufferers.
The 60-year-old, who is now a supply teacher, from Dalton-on-Tees, near Darlington, is taking part in a 1,000-mile cycle challenge from Land's End to John O'Groats.
His inspiration for the challenge came from his neighbour, who suffers from MS.
John said: "I only started cycling when I retired from my job in the computer industry.
"But I decided to do something to help others, and when I found out my neighbour Bob had MS it gave me the inspiration I needed."
The challenge has managed to generate more than £1,000 in sponsorship, which will be donated to the Darlington branch of the MS Society.
John is even thinking about his next fundraising challenge, which will be to raise £3,000 to buy a bike that attaches to a wheelchair.
He said: "Hopefully, I can raise the cash and give disabled people the chance to go out on a cycle ride. Who knows, I might cycle across America next time."
