A MOTHER and her five-week-old baby were showered with glass when youths used a catapult to smash the window of a moving train.
Police are looking for information on young people who were seen firing at Metro trains travelling between the Bede and Tyne Dock Metro stations in South Shields on Thursday.
A police spokesman said the train was travelling east at 12.50pm when something struck the window as it passed Lord Blyton School, to the west of Wenlock Road, in Simonside, South Shields.
The woman and her baby were showered with glass, but unhurt, and the train was immediately taken out of service.
Youths were seen standing on the northern embankment firing catapults. Anyone with information has been asked to call 0191-454 7555.
