ONE of the region's grammar schools is looking for its former pupils to take part in a follow-up reunion.

St Mary's Grammar School, in Darlington, held a reunion to mark its 75th anniversary last year which was so successful, organisers are to hold another one later this year.

More than 160 old boys from the school attended last year's reunion, including two from the first intake to the school in 1924.

Many of those who attended the school reunion have told organisers they would like an opportunity to meet their former school friends again, and several others, who were unable to attend, would welcome the chance to do so this year.

A second reunion has been arranged for Saturday, September 16.

The aim of organisers is to try and contact other past pupils of St Mary's over and above those whose names have already been gathered both during and after the last get-together.

Organisers have discovered that several people still reside in the North-East, or have returned to the region.

The day will start at 10am, with a Mass at Carmel College, which will be celebrated by priests who were either teachers or pupils at the school and who now serve in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. A buffet lunch will follow.

St Mary's was the forerunner to Carmel RC Technology College, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last September.
