WHEN it comes to helping unwanted dogs, animal lover Amanda Pearson has eyes for only one breed of pooch.
For the dog fanatic has set up a rehoming scheme specifically for Yorkshire terriers, which she runs from her home near Osmotherley, in North Yorkshire.
Amanda has been finding new owners for hundreds of the tiny terriers for the past two years, taking in about six a week.
She has found homes for dogs from across the North-East, and many of the unwanted animals have been abandoned or abused.
A team of volunteers helps find new homes for the dogs, and either Amanda or one of her helpers vets any prospective owners thoroughly.
But unbelievably, the Yorkshire Terrier is not her favourite breed of dog.
She said: "I love Yorkshire terriers but they're not my favourite breed, which is the Great Dane, which I suppose is rather odd.
"I started rehoming Yorkies after helping my mother find one, and ever since I've been looking after them and finding them new owners."
Amanda, who owns two labradors and two Yorkshire Terriers, has found homes for dogs all over the North-East, but her biggest problem is funding.
She added: "I need as much help as I can get, because I've had to pump a lot of money into looking after the dogs, and as there is no fee we struggle for money."
Anyone who is interested in providing a home for a Yorkshire terrier, or who would like to give a donation, can contact Amanda on (01609) 883207, or (01609) 883490.
