THE North-East's top biker bobby left the rest of the force trailing at an international competition in Scotland.

Andy Huddleston, a constable at Bishop Auckland, County Durham, was the best-placed police rider in the Scottish Six Day Trial, held at Fort William.

He finished 16th in a field packed with some of the world's best riders.

With Police 'A' team-mates Iain Thompson, from Northumbria, and Mick Croome, from the Met, they took the trophy for the best services team, finishing 200 points ahead of the Army.

Although he has cut back on competitive riding to concentrate on work, Andy is representing County Durham in two trials later this year and is taking part in the national police championships.

As a teenager he was one of the country's most successful young bikers and is a former British experts trials champion.

Since he joined the force after leaving Wolsingham School and Community College, he has used his skills to promote motorcycle safety and security.

He helped to launch a big anti-theft campaign in the Wear and Tees division and was in pole position to promote a police crackdown on off-road riders.
