THE BABY of the Citroen range, the Saxo recently underwent a mid-life revamp which further differentiated it from its rival, the Peugeot 106.
Beneath the skin it remains pretty much as before.
The Saxo has always enjoyed class-leading dynamics so this comes as no suprise.
The interior is well-finished. Motorists may find the footwell a little tight but the pedals are well-spaced and it doesn't feel too cramped from the driver's seat.
Leg room in the back is adequate for a growing family and the handy-sized boot can be expanded by folding the seats.
Just because it's a small car, doesn't mean you have to put up with a poverty row specification.
Most models include twin air bags, an anti-theft device and powered steering.
Automatic transmission, electric windows and anti-lock brakes are also available.
It may not be the youngest kid on the block but the Saxo is still an attractive little hatchback with exceptional ride and handling.
