SUMMER showers could not dampen the enthusiasm of hundreds of youngsters determined to have a good time.
East Durham and Houghall Community College held a play day for four to 16-year-olds at its Houghall site near Durham last Wednesday.
Attractions included fancy dress and banner parades, bouncy castles, a bungee run, an agility trail, five-a-side soccer competition, a falconry display and a gyroscope.
Around 600 youngsters from across the county attended the fun day, which was held to mark National Play Day, which aims to promote the value of play to children's development.
College principal Ian Prescott added: "The college continues to support community projects and is totally committed to its community role.
"Play days like this help to raise awareness of lifelong learning for all.''
