FOR years, drinkers said John Taylor's pub looked like an outpost of Beamish Museum.
John filled the Beamish Mary Inn, at No Place, half a mile from the tourist attraction, with artefacts including valve radios and pit signs.
But, after 12 years running the pub, John sold up.
Now, after a year's break, he and wife Joanne are going back into the pub game - as landlords of the 1913 pub inside Beamish Museum.
They will take over the Sun Inn, which gives visitors an authentic taste of early 20th Century drinking, next month and are being fitted out in period costume.
John said: "A lot of Beamish Museum workers came to the Beamish Mary and I always fancied running their pub."
Tomorrow, John will lead a charity challenge involving sailing a canoe on England's highest lake, near the top of Helvellyn, the Lake District mountain.
He and his team will be towing the canoe and nine gallons of water back to County Durham, where it will be turned into real ale and sold at the Beamish Mary in aid of breast cancer research.
