A SUPPORT group for carers is improving its service.

The Sedgefield Locality Carers' Centre, in Newton Aycliffe, is opening a new drop-in centre.

The facility, in the Pioneering Care Centre, Burn Lane, will be open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between 9.30am and 4pm.

The service will continue to operate for two days a week - Tuesday and Thursday -at its town centre location in Upper Dalton Way, above KwikSave.

The centre provides support for people who care for someone who is sick, disabled or frail. It is open to all carers, from people who keep in regular contact to make sure someone is safe, to total responsibility for someone's personal care and welfare.

Support worker Kathy Curran said: "We have years of experience and understanding of carers' needs and how anxious, stressed or isolated carers can feel. We offer information and advice on services and benefits, support groups, social activities, sitting and transport services, a professional counsellor, and access to therapies such as aromatherapy, reflexology and Indian head massage."

The group can be contacted on (01325) 308100, or at the new location on (01325) 313123.
