THE line-up of the major public sector decision-making body in North Yorkshire has been revealed.
Government proposals to streamline local government mean county council decisions will be taken by a six-strong body instead of in larger committees.
The six executive members in the new cabinet-style system will be led by David Ashton, who will remain as leader of the council and will have overall responsibility for the budget process.
Education and libraries executive member will be John Dennis, Shelagh Marshall will oversee social services, Peter Sowray will take charge of environmental services, business and consumer services will be the responsibility of Tim Cole, and Murray Naylor will take on corporate affairs.
Mr Ashton said: "The new structure will complement the changes in the decision-making process, allowing greater access and involvement in the work of the council."
The cabinet will be responsible for delivering front-line services and will recommend new policies and budget levels.
A scrutiny committee made up of the remaining councillors will be formed to review the work of the cabinet.
Area committees will also be established to involve local interest groups including district councils, businesses and voluntary groups.
The new system will come into operation from the beginning of next month.
