The final round of the Yarm Summer League on the Lower Tees saw unstoppable leaders Cleveland Angling Centre B, who had dominated all five matches, slip into third place on the da, writes JEFF HERBERT.

However, they wrapped up the league in grand style finishing on 58 points, 15 ahead of nearest rivals Darlington A on 43 points, just one ahead of Middlesbrough Newman Scott A.

Yarm's Alan Wilcox sealed individual honours netting a mixed return of 8.12.0.

Working the whip and caster at six metres on the Cabbage Patch upstream of Nellys Beck and feeding a small ball of groundbait every chuck, small roach, perch and chublets obliged.

Darlington A's Alan Lepatourel accumulated all chublets for 7.15.0 to finish runner-up off peg 13 at Harkers Farm on the pole and maggot.

Teams: 1 MNS 37 points, 2 Yarm 33, 3 CAC B 32

Meanwhile, on the middle reaches at Over Dinsdale the river was low and clear for the Darlington and District team championships and chublets were the mainstay.

Leading eight double figured nets, John Whitehouse (Albert Hill) edged a very tight result. Pegged above Red Rock Weir floatfished caster brought chublets for 16.5.0 including a few bigger samples to 3lb.

Hot on the winner's heels came Harrowgate Hill's Keith Broomfield who utilised the waggler and corn off Bowl Hole Corner taking 16.3.0.

Team scores: Haughton A 53 points, Harrowgate Hill 47, Darlington A 40

One hundred and twenty competitors were spread between Skylark, Partridge, Kestrel, Dragonfly and Swallow lakes for the British Aerospace Sports Club Angling championships, held on the Woodlands complex.

Hordes of small carp helped steer Lostock A to victory, spearheaded by individual winner Peter Turner who recorded 38.13.0. Tackling Skylark 22 on the pole and paste at five metres fish in the six to eight ounce bracket kept him busy throughout. Peter lost a couple of bigger samples but managed to hang on to one of 8lb followed by C Spicer (Brough A) on 37.12.0.

On Saturday sell-out open sport was excellent on Partridge and Skylark lakes and produced one of the best matches weight-wise on these two lakes. At the scales, 17 rods boasted 40lb plus and every fish counted as competitors vied for the top.

Peg 25 off Skylark proved a winner for Ian Brayshaw. Working the short pole and paste carp responded highlighted by one specimen into double figures making for 51.6.0 at the weigh-in.

Meanwhile, Partridge Nine delivered the best of the rest. Dave Shaw was relegated to second place by the narrowest of margins taking 51.2.0. Like the winner pole and paste culminated in another carp haul.

Others: S Russell (MNS) 49.2.0, I Bowman (Map Elton) 47.16.0, D Thompson (Ripon) 46.3.0

In the third round of the Drennan Northern division at Woodlands Map Elton took full advantage of home ground and set a new league record scoring 72 points.

Kenny Ovendon (Strikemore Baits) rattled out 66.9.0 to head an impressive scoresheet.

Drawn on Skylark 29, Ovendon alternated long and short on the pole tempting carp to 4lb on both pellet and paste.

Graham Lowery (MNS) followed off Kestrel 32. Long pole attracted carp early on to paste and pellet hook baits but most of the 55.8.0 net came under his toes at two metres.

Teams: 1 Map Elton 72 points, 2 MNS 65, 3 Diawa Cleveland 64

League: 1 MNS 202 points, 2 Map Elton 155, 3 Diawa Cleveland 149, 4 Darlington AC 146, 5 Big Waters 127, 6 Strikemore Baits 126

The Ure produced one double figured net in the Ripon Piscatorials Bradford Cup staged between Barn Island to Monkton.

Peter Miller (Marsh Tackle) pulled out the Diving Board swim at Foxtons Field and located five chub to waggler and maggot before switching to the bomb and adding six perch.

It was all perch for Ripon's Barry Raddon, two pegs below alternating pole and bomb on the worm for 7.9.0.

Round six of the Quali-Tie Ferryhill Bank Masters was badly affected by compensation water.

Held on Blackton Reservoir, which had just been topped up from nearby Balderhead, the chilled water certainly put the trout off the feed.

Nigel Hales (Hexham) worked hard in tempting three rainbows on a Dawson's Olive for 5.10.0 from Kevin Dinning (Newcastle) two rainbows for 3.9.0 and Peter Crowe (Hartlepool) a single rainbow of 2.8.0.
