THREE men have been arrested after a brick attack left a young clubgoer fighting for his life.
The man was waiting in the queue to get into The Tuxedo Princess nightspot, Gateshead, on August 4, when he was hit on the head by a brick hurled from the Tyne Bridge.
Three men had tried to jump the queue and got into a row with doorstaff before storming off.
Minutes later, a shower of objects were hurled from a tower at the Gateshead end of the landmark bridge.
The 22-year-old from Manchester was hit on the head by a full house brick.
Other revellers in the queue were forced to run for cover, cowering behind a hot-dog van as stones and heavy metal brackets from scaffolding crashed down around them.
Several were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The young man, a graduate of Northumbria University, was left fighting for life. He is making slow progress in Newcastle General Hospital.
He was in Newcastle planning to attend a wedding of a former university friend the following day.
The three men, aged 28, 30 and 36, are all from the Tyneside area. They have been arrested and released on bail pending further inquiries.
