A COUNCIL has been applauded for making life easier for disabled people in the town.

Workers at Darlington Borough Council recently installed the last tarmac ramp which link kerbs with the road.

About 100 ramps have been fitted in the town centre to make it easier for people in wheelchairs to get around.

Gordon Pybus, chairman of the access interest group at Darlington Association on Disability (DAD), said the ramps were a welcome addition.

"Previously it was very awkward getting up and down the kerbs, and people have been known to fall out of their wheelchairs," he said.

"This has made life a lot easier and the council has done a very good job."

A spokesman for Darlington Borough Council said: "We are grateful to Mr Pybus and the DAD for highlighting the problems, and helping us to sort them out."
